Water4All 2026 Joint Transnational Call on Sustainable Water Management
Original title (EN): Water4All 2026 Joint Transnational Call - Sustainable Water Management (excluding extreme events and circularity)
The window is not open yet. The call is already published: applications are accepted from 8 September 2026. This is the time to prepare the paperwork.
What it funds
Fifth transnational call of the European water partnership, dedicated to sustainable water management at river basin and hydrogeological system scale. Four thematic strands: integrated monitoring and assessment; nature-based approaches for water resilience; smart, secure and adaptive water infrastructures; resilient water systems through systemic change and governance. The third strand is the most relevant to irrigation engineering and sensing. Funding agencies from 30 countries take part, including Italy. Official launch is planned for 8 September 2026, with closure indicated in November 2026.
Who can apply
Transnational research consortia: universities, research bodies, companies including SMEs, water operators and end users. The eligibility of each partner and the fundable cost items are set by the rules of its own national funding agency, not by a single EU-wide rule.
Access for non-resident businesses
Il consorzio deve comprendere almeno 3 partner ammissibili stabiliti in 3 paesi diversi fra quelli partecipanti alla call, di cui almeno 2 soggetti giuridici indipendenti stabiliti in 2 diversi Stati membri UE o paesi associati a Horizon Europe. Fra i 30 paesi partecipanti figurano l'Italia e paesi extra-UE come Brasile, Israele, Moldavia, Norvegia, Sudafrica, Tunisia, Turchia e Regno Unito. Attenzione: il finanziamento non arriva dalla Commissione ma dall'agenzia nazionale di ciascun partner, quindi un partner italiano è finanziato secondo le regole italiane e deve verificare che la propria agenzia partecipi effettivamente a questa tornata.
Notes and caveats
As of 27 August 2026 only the pre-announcement exists, published on 12 June 2026: topics, the list of 30 participating countries and the consortium rule are confirmed, while the overall budget, the exact pre-proposal deadline and the two-stage procedure are NOT yet published and will be released with the 8 September 2026 launch. Closure is indicated generically as November 2026. The partnership has also already announced a sixth call for September 2027 on 'Water for ecosystems and biodiversity'.
